Lard-Based Pie Crust

The recipe described below describes an essential ingredient in many Italian delicacies - lard-based pie crust. Lard must be used because it gives the crust a nice flaky texture.

Sift the flour into a mixing bowl. Dice the lard into small pieces and add to the flour. Slowly add water - a total of about 4 tablespoons depending on how dry the flour is. Slowly mix together and knead until the dough forms a ball. The bowl should be clean when finished.
