Mom's Apple Slices
Apple slices are a very simple extension of our basic
pie crust recipe.
Ingredients:
- 6 large apples (preferably Granny Smith or Macintosh)
- cinnamon (nutmeg is also good to use)
- sugar
- powdered sugar (2 tablespoons)
- vanilla extract (optional)
- butter (optional)
Instructions:
Cut the apples into quarters (lengthwise). Peel off the skin and core.
Cut into small slices - not too thin but not too thick either.
Mix the apples with a little sugar and cinnamon. Let refrigerate
for 30 minutes.
Assemble into a pie tin of your choice with good pie crust on both sides.
Bake at 350 degrees for about 45 minutes. The crust should be light brown.
After cooking is complete, you can add icing to the top by mixing a
little powdered sugar in milk. Dribble along the top in a random pattern.
These apple slices are not too sweet and really accentuate the taste
of the crust. Lard-based crust is highly recommended!
